The $$ of War
So we're sitting around the breakfast table this morning, talking and sharing about the wars of our lifetime, meaning the life time of my parents and myself. The talk turned to what it's costing the U.S. to maintain presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. The counter below is the running tally of what the war has cost in dollars to date. The projection by most analysts is that the total will reach $1 trillion. It is currently costing approximately $195 million per day. This total could have built over 4.2 million single family dwellings in the U.S. It could have insured 280 million children for health care. (There are only 301 million PEOPLE in the U.S!)
Bad things happen when we write cheques our accounts can't cash. What dangers loom in yonder distance for our neighbors? Unfortunately, what dangers loom for them carry a blast radius that will hit us full in the face.

Perhaps a bigger question is what's going to happen when the larger US debt turns a normal looking recession into something more?
